Do I have to be a member of AIGA Alaska to enter?

Nope! THE BIG ONE is open to all designers in Alaska – everyone from Barrow to Ketchikan. However, members enjoy discounted entry fees!


Can I submit my entry after the deadline?

No. All entries must be submitted no later than midnight, August 31, 2020.


What does “publish date” mean in the entry guidelines?

Our entry guidelines refer to publish date rather than creation date in case there was a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in effect where work was created but not allowed to be publicized until a certain date. For example, if you were under NDA and produced work in March 2019 (or any time before our entry guideline period) and the design was made public or the NDA otherwise ceased at a date within our entry guideline period (8/1/19-7/31/20), then your work is eligible for 2020.


What if I mail the physical entry and it misses the deadline? Will it still be displayed?

Yes. If you anticipate delays, contact James at (907) 252-8820 or e-mail james@alaska.aiga.org so that we can watch for it.


How do I pay for my entry?

All payments will be made online with a debit or credit card through the Judgify system.


Do I have to mount my work?

If you want your work to be displayed during Design Week, it must be mounted on foam core. See the Physical Entries page for details.


I live outside of Anchorage. Do I have to mount my work?

Do I have to display my entry to be eligible for the People’s Choice Award?

Normally, yes. This year, however, we are working on a solution to offer People’s Choice Voting online in some fashion. See the Physical Entries page for details. YES. The People’s Choice voting will open during the awards reception from 6:00pm to 7:29pm on October 12. Tickets to the awards reception will be available at the door. Online RSVP information is forthcoming as the awards reception will be an Anchorage Design Week event.


How will I know if my entry has been selected by the judges?

Winners will be announced at THE BIG ONE presentation on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Winners who are not present will receive email notification by October 20th. You will be notified about the status of your entry only if your work is selected as a winner and you are not present at the reception. Awards will be mailed by October 30th.


Can I get my entry back after Design Week the awards ceremony?

AIGA Alaska intends on overseeing production, installation, and recycling of all physical entries this year in the interest of public health and safety. Yes. You or your representative can coordinate the pick up of your mounted entries at the end of Design Week. Entries that are not picked up will be recycled.


Will there be a printed catalog of the winning entries?

No, but all winners will be included in a special gallery on the AIGA Alaska competition website.


What’s up with all the strike-throughs?

Not sure if these ‘special circumstance’ procedures will stick around in the future. Just trying to make it easy to revert back at some point 🙂
